Es hat eine geringe Toxizit\u00e4t f\u00fcr den menschlichen K\u00f6rper und wird daher als Schmiermittel beim Laminieren und bei der Herstellung von Lebensmittelverpackungen verwendet. Au\u00dferdem hat es einen niedrigeren Siedepunkt als herk\u00f6mmliche industrielle Schmiermittel und kann bei niedrigen Temperaturen entfernt werden. Es wirkt auch als L\u00f6sungsmittel: Als langkettiger Ester kann es andere kurz- und mittelkettige, biologisch abbaubare Neinn-Ester ersetzen.
