The surfactant comes in needles, granules or powder form and is very suitable for solid and waterless formulations. Sodium cocoyl istehionate acts as a suitable replacement for sulfates in liquid rinse-off formulations, with the advantage of easy thickening.

To improve efficacy, the concentration of the active should not be simply increased at will, as this involves a certain risk since there is often a lack of data on tolerability at higher concentrations . Therefore, it is better to increase the efficacy at a typical concentration through technologies that enhance performance.
