Emollients

Vegetable oils and fats are lipids, whereby glycerin as a trivalent alcohol is esterified with higher fatty acids to form triglycerides. The resulting emollients fulfill a variety of functions in cosmetic formulations, depending on the main fatty acids used. They can be used as solvents for UV filters, pigments, or active ingredients. In skin care products, they are primarily intended to make the skin soft and supple. Depending on the type and concentration used, they have a major influence on the texture, sensory properties, and consistency of a product.
