Conditioning Agents

Conditioning agents are auxiliary substances in cosmetic formulations and are mainly used in hair care products. They are intended to ensure that the hair can be combed well after washing, both wet and dry, as well as providing shine and a healthy appearance to the hair. Conditioning polymers, other cationic substances, or silicone oils are often used. Although these absorb well onto the hair, they can weigh it down or result in a build-up effect, especially on fine hair. In addition, they are sometimes classified as bio-accumulative.

Modern emollients and blends of different conditioning esters such as BergaCare products offer good alternatives to traditional conditioners. Furthermore, glycolic acid such as GlyAcid 70 HP from Crosschem is very suitable for use in hair care products, as it is the smallest alpha-hydroxy acid. It can penetrate the hair follicle and act as a plasticizer instead of water, thus protecting the hair from breakage when treated with heat. It also closes the upper follicle layer and thus prevents frizz.
