Phospholipids are very popular in natural cosmetic products because of their multifunctional properties. Due to their amphiphilic structure, they can be used in emulsions, but also to produce liposomes. Lecithin, or rather the fractions of phosphatidylcholine it contains, are known to enhance the penetration of formulation active ingredients through the stratum corneum and into deeper skin layers. Phosphatidylcholine is rich in unsaturated essential fatty acids and therefore provide nutrients to the skin. The high content linolenic acid further support the good sebum quality in acne-probe skin.
